Wow. I like the second ship alot, and the hallway is very impressive. Nice Work. You mught want to use a wider variety of textures on the ships. Are those the final product or do you have plans for them? _________________ Dance like it hurts.

Sorry that I cant like the ships this time. Thye just look so... odd... The first ship looks a Voinian ship. It has that kind of color (grey and red lights). The second... I dont even know which part represents which part. Thats not to say they are ugly- they still come with a lot of detail. _________________ Animated movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron Talkback: http://www.dreamworksfansite.com/talkback/forumdisplay.php?forumid=10 |

Grey is the default color if you dont have texture, so he obviously didnt texture the first one.
And they arent bad I can't see the "hallway". The image isnt showing up
I kinda like the first one's design. Maybe you should remake it? From my expierience with remaking (isn't much but still), you get new ideas an add new things. Nice work, Vash the Humanoid Typhoon |

Yeah the hall is BMP so thats why it wont load. I have it uploaded on the sight in JPG now so if any one wants to see them please contact me.
Thank you for your input. I will put some more effort into these. I am constantly remaking things and am now building a sort of Cargo pod Hauler. I will put a ton of effort. I tend to do better work when I dont have to sleep for school. So this week (spring break) will allow me to stay up late and perfect them. I mainly wanted you to look at the designs. If any one has any ideas please tell me. I need practice (obviously).
Thank you again.

Ship #1:
I recommend going for a light color or a reflective finish, but not both. Seeing the stars on the light gray just looks weird. I'd also like to see where the cockpit is.
Image #2:
Despite my best efforts I still couldn't track down the image (it's not like I can't see a BMP, but I do need to be able to download it). Please put it up in a web-friendly form, we all want to see it.
Ship #3:
It looks heavy and solid. I see you're adding more detail, which is good. It's a bit confusing to look at and figure out what's what, so it's probably an alien ship.
Ship #3:
the texture isn't doing it for me. the green and dark gray lines/boxes look pretty good, but the highly repeated brick texture is too noisy for a fighter, and doesn't go with the scaled-up noise on the rest at all.
Overall, the shapes are interesting and creative. What if you tried some weapons in the same sharp angular style? |

To view his png image right click on the "broken link" icon where it should be and click view image. Crap, just tried it in IE and that doesn't work. Get Firefox, then do that (Or you can just wait for him to fix it). _________________ Dance like it hurts.

Sorry guys, Here it is in JPG
The trash cans are kinda goofy but I ran out of time for the assignment.
Yeah. I was mainly experimenting with the Brick texture. I figured it wouldnt look all that great. Captain bob, What texture do you use for your fighters, I also have a question for goon. how do you make textures (like a panel or Energy scar) on a curved surface without going into the model room and making and naming more selections. That is how i do it. It has to be easier.
Thank you all. I am excited to start working more diligently on this during summer.
P.S. There isn't much reflection at all actually it is just how the brick appeared to look. I will define the cockpit soon. _________________ I'm Da Halo 2 King.

What you're looking to accomplish is best accomplished with decals. A decal (at least in Carrara) specifies a small area of your model to be textured differently from the rest. Since I've got a little time I'll whip up a tiny tutorial:
Go to the texture room and find the texture used on your model. Now notice 4 round buttons at the top, right under the menus. These are the tools to select and create decals. Make the preview window nice and big so you can see where you want to place the decal. You may have to click on the white text to select the preview of your object. Now click on the rectangle decal button, and drag out a rectangular section on the surface of your ship in the shader preview window. You'll see a black outline that defines where the decal is. This decal can has as much shader information as anything else. You'll notice the shader information window has changed; the top level is now a layers list. If you scroll all the way down, you'll see "Rect Layer". This has a shader (I recommend setting that to multichannel to get all the options) and an opacity mask, which is how you define what regions get the decal shader, or the base shader, or something in between.
Use the arrow decal button to select decals and move them around. You can also specify the coverage numerically. The method of shading that gives you ultimate control is UV texture mapping, but that's something I couldn't explain very well, especially in Carrara. |

Hmmm..
I kinda like the un-textured one more, it shows you shape and design more, your new textures kinda make it look the same :-\ From the side atleast, i like the top view though. |
